Once your lash extensions have started to dwindle and you are ready to take them off, you'll want to make sure you do so carefully and attentively. We have compiled a list of ways to remove the lashes, naturally and otherwise.

The 4 most common ways to remove lash extensions include going natural (using steam and oil, buying a professional glue remover product, or going back to your lash technician for professional removal.

Whatever method you decide on, you may notice that you lose a few lashes in the process... Don’t fret, as we have a special eyelash growth hack for you at the end of this article. Happy removing!

Method 1: Steam and Oil

You know how people say that Coconut Oil is good for everything? Yeah, well according to Instyle Magazine, it’s great for eyelash extension removal as well. Coconut Oil works as a glue remover by breaking down the glue that is keeping your extension stuck to your lash. Except, it’s natural! Yay :)

Here is how to remove your lashes with steam & oil:

Step 1: Clean Your Face

The first step in removing your lash extensions is to clean your face thoroughly. You will want to make sure that all mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, and moisturizers are off of your lashes to begin the process. Any make-up remover or face wash will work! Just make sure that you wash thoroughly!

Step 2: Steam Your Face

Steaming your face is a great process to add to your skin-care regimen already. It’s great for opening up your pores and nasal passageways. It is also great for breaking the bond between the eyelash extension glue and your lash. That glue is seriously powerful, so you will need all the help that you can get.

Facial Steam

According to AllEyeLashes, to steam your face, grab a pot and boil 3-4 cups of water in it. Once the water is boiling, you can place your face over it, with a towel behind your head. This will keep the steam in for maximum results. You can even add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to get an aromatherapy session in! Try to steam for about 10 minutes, but never push yourself if you are feeling pain or irritation.

Step 3: Wet a Cotton Ball with Coconut Oil (Or Olive Oil)

Dip a soft cotton ball into your favorite oil and start rubbing your lashes in soft circular motions. Be sure to generously apply the oil to the individual lashes as best you can.

As you are wiping, you should start to see some of the eyelash extensions falling off. Continue to rub gently until most of them are off. If you accidentally get any oil into your eyes, you can put some eye drops in them to help break the oil up.

Step 4: Wash Your Face

Using the same gentle face cleanser that you used at the beginning of the process, make sure to rinse your lashes and get all of the oil off. You may find that a few more lash extensions come off in this process too!

Method 2: Buy a Professional Product

When in doubt, try to find a professional product that was made exclusively for removing eyelash extensions. Usually, these products aren’t natural or vegan and can be more expensive. But the formulas were designed to be near your eyes, so you can rest easy knowing that your eyes are in good hands.

Step 1: Pick Your Eyelash Remover

There are a few professional-grade formulas designed specifically to dissolve eyelash glue. The highest-rated eyelash extension remover on Amazon is Blink Gel Remover. Another highly-rated product is the SugarLash Pro Gel Remover

Step 2: Get a Good Look At Your Lashes

Make sure to remove all of your mak-up first. Then, spend a few minutes looking at the placement of the lashes and where they bond with the lash extensions. This will help you target the right areas when you are using the product.

Step 3: Apply the Glue Remover

Make sure to read the instructions on your product before doing anything. Generally speaking though, you should apply your eyelash glue remover on a cotton ball. Soak a cotton ball and use your fingers to point the lashes down. Close your eyes and apply the glue in slow, circular motions. Begin at the outer eyelid and work your way in.

Step 4: Pull Out Loosened Lashes

A lot of your lash extensions will come loose during this process. Make sure to remove the lashes tenderly, as you don’t want to pull your natural lash out with it! Use your fingers and pull lightly. If the extension doesn’t look like it is coming off, apply a little more glue remover to get it to come off.

Step 5: Wash Your Lashes

After you finish removing your eyelash extensions, you may have some extra adhesive still on your eyes. Use a gentle face cleanser to wash off the extra adhesive and cleanse your lashes. Use a moisturizer when you are done to add moisture back to the lashes, keeping them from getting too brittle.

Method 3: Go see a Professional

When in doubt, seek professional help! Having a professional remove your lashes is the best way to ensure that you won’t lose and unnecessary lashes.

As a general rule of thumb, you should go back to the lash studio that you went to get the lash extensions in the first place. They should know the best solvents and treatments to use on the particular glue that they put on you.

If you did not like the eyelash application that you received, you should seek out a different salon for eyelash removal. Let them know where you went and what type of lashes they put on you. Most eyelash studios will have a variety of solvents and tools to make sure that they remove your lashes in the most effective manner.
